Welcome to the Bulatov's collection web site.

This site represents a virtual collection of some mathematical ideas as well as a collection of original real sculptures. You can see converging of virtual imagination with the real world.

Enjoy math art as the visible modeling of mathematics concepts. These mathematically challenging artworks were designed using classical ideas of balance and symmetry. Mathematical yet organic, these abstract forms express geometric aesthetic and beauty of shapes.

We offer online collection of Abstract Sculptures.
They are made from stainless steel and bronze. A three-dimensional computer models were realized into real forms by using a new direct-metal printing and selective laser sintering (SLS) techniques.

Techniques:
The process of making my sculptures starts from mathematical idea.

I build a computer model to represent this mathematical idea in 3D world. At this stage I have some very rough understanding of how the object will look. Next I apply custom algorithms to give the model nice body and organic look. I write all software I use for this process. At this stage I have detailed computer image of the future sculpture which I can rotate and manipulate in real time.

Next step is to play with computer model and to select parameters of the model to make sculpture look most interesting. The selected model is saved in special 3D file format as hundreds of thousands of tiny triangles representing surface of the object.

The file is sent to 3D printing company in California who uses state of the art technique to build real piece from thin layers of steel and bronze composite using computer controlled powerful laser.

When I got my "green" pieces back it have rough surface. I hand polish pieces and burnish them in tumbler with stainless steel shot for about 24 hours.
